单词
在我看来，有了大量词汇的积累众多的语言难点都可以迎刃而解，记得一个朋友是这样形容自己如何连背三遍GRE单词的：“我把每一张卡片都看成美钞。”尽管是戏谑确有其真义。背单词，一本好的词汇书是必须的，他必须满足几个条件：
1、针对性强，这样才能避免做无用功和“空中楼阁”现象的出现。
2、精炼但覆盖面广，对于常用的动词、介词、名词有精简概括的用法和词条介绍。
3、例句生动贴切，词汇只有在句子中才有生命，好的例句不仅有助于记忆词汇，更可以在很大程度上培养语感，提高修饰水平。
背单词的大忌在于背背停停，这样的效果是最差的，一旦去背了就要天天坚持，不一定刻意去追求数量，有时一两个也可以，关键在于连续和质量。
语法
系统的语法书对于想学好英语的人来讲是必不可少的。的确，语法是语言的骨架，我们学习语言，不必过分拘泥于语法，却不可弃之一边。
薄冰和张道正先生的语法书是值得一学的，高中三年应基本完成英语的语法教学系统，有条理的翻阅一下语法书有助于查漏补缺，但也无需钻研过深。
阅读和写作
平时我们要广泛的选用泛读、快读、略读和导读等多种手段来有针对性地加大自己的阅读量，提高自己的阅读水平。泛读的内容可以侧重于英语报刊和原版小说。此外，还应该充分利用图书馆，有目的地找一些材料来锻炼自己运用英语的能力，提高阅读速度，猎取所需信息。
学习英语的根本目的，是为了汲取异域文化和加强国家之间的沟通与交流。因此我们一般总是通过阅读，来了解双方的语言语境、文化背景上的差异，从而积累素材，以便在写作时阐述自己的观点。
口语和听力
你要相信自己是能听会说的，只要自己肯努力，就一定可以。成功方法和途径多之又多：可以在早上打开收音机收听英语栏目，可以去英语角来聊聊天、一个人对着镜子找个话题谈谈，可以上业余进修学校的口语班，如果够胆，还可以找个老外当一次导游......方法是举不胜举的，关键是自己是否能够做一个有心人。
应试技巧
1、千万不能忽视小词的用法。类似于come to ,come up,come into,come across 等加了小词之后，词条就有了不同的用法和辨析，这一点在英语学习中是不可忽视的。
2、阅读时争取一目十行，有了大意，看过题目之后再细读文章，更有目的性、针对性，更省时间。
3、完形填空兼顾了阅读能力和语法、语义、语境、词汇等多方面的技能，是灵活运用语言、语境知识，科学使用文化背景的综合体现。平时可以通过完型填空来锻炼自己的能力。
4、写作和口语中尽量少用偏词、冷僻词，熟练运用大众词汇，那才是写作、口语水平高超的表现。
5、适当的业余课程学习是必要的，高中其实正处于读、考TOEFL的黄金时段，你会发现，这对自己参加考试和英语各类竞赛有很大帮助。
语言这个东西可以说有捷径可走，即寻求一个好方法;也可以说无捷径可循，即脱不开自身的努力和兴趣。因人而异，寻找共同点，整理出一套适合自己的方法才是语言学习的根本。第一门外语，我们可能要花十几年才能掌握，但一旦有了方法和经验，掌握第二门外语，也许一两年就足够了。就像我现在学习德文，提高之快，是学习英语是无法比拟的，也是自己始料未及的。
